The Portugal Wines Club
The Portugal Wines Club has partnered up with a local family that runs a tourism and wine business in Douro Valley, are knowledgeable and passionate about wine, and works to support the family businesses in the region. The family has built deep friendships with the local, family-owned wineries in the valley that produce amazing wines and have generations of history in the valley.
Working together, we aspire to bring you the wonderful wines and stories from these family vineyards, and help to support these small regional vineyards to help them keep producing great wines for generations to come.
The Douro Valley Wine Region
The Douro Valley Wine Region, founded in 1756, is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world (and a Unesco World Heritage site) with roots that go back in time to the Roman Empire age (I AC). Over many millennia, the Douro river carved deep valleys out of the land. Then, the Romans, and others who followed, transformed the sides of the valley into terraced walls to hold the soil and unique schist and shale rocks for planting grape vines to produce wine.
Over generations, the winemakers in this valley have labored to keep maintaining, improving, and growing these original vineyards to provide you with the unique wines from this beautiful valley. The most important wine region in Portugal is now being discovered to many more in the world. Many wine magazines and critics are scoring these wines very highly due to their quality and age worthiness. This is making Douro Valley the next emerging market for wines in the world.
